John Swan and Elizabeth Jeffries found guilty on an indictment for the murder of Joseph Jeffries in the parish of Walthamstow on 3rd July 1751: John Swan shooting him in the right side of his head with Elizabeth Jeffries present aiding, helping, abetting and comforting.  They were ordered to be executed in Epping Forest, one hundred yards beyond the obelisk.  He was ordered to be drawn to the place of execution and afterwards for his body to be hanged in chains.  On Monday, 30th March John Swan’s body was hanged in chains at Buckets Hill, near the Bald-faced Stag..
